Through week 14 Michael Floyd currently sits behind Fitzgerald by 1 reception (54 to 55) but leads in yards (860 to 678). While Fitzgerald holds the touchdown lead over all of the other receivers he is not the threat that he has been in the past. When you look at how many times each player is targeted you see that Floyd is sitting just one target shy of Fitzgerald. Having seen the games I can say that Floyd is targeted mostly when he is open and makes easy catches where as Carson Palmer usually tries to force the ball into Fitzgerald just to get him the ball resulting in turnovers.
Floyd may be the benefactor of double and triple coverage by defenses on Fitzgerald but there is more too it. The athletic plays that are made shows us what Floyd is blossoming into. He is the go to guy for first downs with every one of his last 20 receptions being for one. While Fitz is the viable red zone option Floyd is the possession receiver that Larry used to be. There is no doubt in my mind that Fitz will continue to get his numbers just due to the sheer number of targets he gets but the emerging Michael Floyd is there to take the torch from Larry legend whenever that day truly comes.
