Opened 18 years ago at a cost of 280 million the Rams play in one of the most depressing stadiums in the league. While not totally dilapidated the stadium isn't holding up like it should be for a mid life stadium.
On top of that the Rams front office has high expectations for its stadium. According to their lease agreement the stadium needs to be in the top 8 out of all stadiums in the league by 2015 or they can seek out a new stadium elsewhere. A 124 million dollar renovation was proposed but at half the price of the stadium itself it has been losing steam.
Here are some areas where the Edward Jones Dome is lacking: Concession stands, club seats, installing new windows and an outdated scoreboard.
in 2008 it was ranked as the worst stadium in the league by its fans.
When it opened in 1987 the then Joe Robbie stadium was built to accommodate a major league baseball team. Because of the decision to make it a multi-sport venue the first row of sideline seats is nearly 30 yards away from the action.
The Dolphins were seeking help from the state of Florida's government to get renovations done at a cost of 350 million. That deal didn't happen because of local strife with Miami Marlins owner Jeff Loria constantly screwing over his fans, impacting the Dolphins.
While the Dolphins have all but given up on renovations to their inept stadium, they have been trying to use new technology to increase fan happiness. They used a new Qualcomm location Gimbal beacon technology to give fans who are signed up for it constant updates.
At least the Bills are consistent, crappy team, crappy stadium and a struggling city. Even with the decent ticket prices and the great tailgating the stadium is in rough shape. The Bills manage to jam in 73,000 fans in one of the smallest stadiums in terms of square feet.
This stadium hits 41 years old at the start of the 2014 NFL season and while its not the oldest stadium out there she has been showing her age. Luckily a renovation is taking place this offseason that should make the Ralph a better place for all fans.
The 130 million dollar project will include new gates to provide quicker entrance, 60 feet of video screen added to the main scoreboard, New score boards above each endzone and to cap it off an expanded team store.
The last remaining NFL stadium that hosts both an NFL and MLB team, the "O" is one of the biggest disappointments for all fans. Designed in the 1960's for that specific purpose, it does not do well in either aspect. The Raiders were so upset with the O in 1982 that they left only to return when promises of renovations were spoken of in 1995.
The renovations that were made included the massive seating tower in the baseball outfield that was later named "mount Davis" after the Raiders former owner.
This last season during Oakland Athletics baseball games the clubhouses flooded with sewage adding to the already massive list of issues this stadium has.
There is relief in sight as a plan is coming together to develop the area around the "O" and create new stadiums for both teams.
You may be asking yourself if I put up another picture of Sun Life Stadium, No sir, This is Qualcomm stadium, the boring old home of the Chargers. Built in the late 60's to be a multisport venue ( San Diego Padres) Qualcomm is built almost completely of concrete, with even more concrete around it in the parking lots.
The NFL has told the Chargers and San Diego that no Super Bowl will come back here until a new stadium is built. Talk of a new stadium for the team has been ongoing as the threat of losing the Chargers to the football hungry Los Angeles area grows larger.
Stadiums that just missed the list - Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, Georgia Dome, Superdome, Paul Brown Stadium
